1.1.I.120 Intervening activity (JETCCFA)

Definition

An intervening JETCCFA activity means a JETCCFA activity other than the activity for which approval is being sought.

Note: A person should use the total allocation of an activity limit before being required to undertake an intervening activity, unless exceptional circumstances apply. Once an activity limit is reached, if a person wishes to be reassessed for further assistance they would then need to complete an intervening activity.

JETCCFA can be granted for a subsequent JETCCFA activity if:

  • the activity is not a continuation of an earlier activity that has reached its activity approval limit, and
  • the person has completed an intervening JETCCFA activity (exceptions apply to LMPs).

Study & training activities

From 9 May 2012, a person will only be granted one block of 24 months for a study or training activity (per qualification). Where a person has already completed their 24 months JETCCFA for a study or training activity, they are not eligible for further JETCCFA for a study or training activity unless the course is a step-up, attainment wise, from a course they have studied previously. Note, the course can only be at the same course level only if it is an area that is identified as having a skills shortage as identified on the Skills Shortage List - Australia. This is regardless whether the person undertakes an intervening activity. Further provisions for study and training activities are outlined in section 2.8.3.40.

Note: From 1 July 2008 to 8 May 2012, where a person had already completed their 24 months JETCCFA for a study or training activity they were eligible for further JETCCFA for study or training, if the person had completed an intervening activity other than job search and the study or training activity was not a continuation of an earlier activity that reached its approval limit. Existing JETCCFA recipients, prior to 9 May 2012, will be grandfathered on the previous JETCCFA conditions, until they complete their current course of study or 30 December 2012, whichever comes first.
