1.2.9 Northern Territory CDEP Transition Payment - Description
Note: This payment is NO LONGER available and the following information is for HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY.
On 23 July 2007, the Australian Government announced changes to the delivery of Indigenous employment services in the Northern Territory to support the Northern Territory Emergency Response. CDEP in the Northern Territory will progressively be replaced with real jobs, training and mainstream employment programmes.
CDEP participants who do not immediately transition to employment will be moved off CDEP scheme payments onto income support payments. Participants who were eligible for CDEP and active in CDEPManager on 23 July 2007 may be qualified for the Northern Territory CDEP transition payment. The Northern Territory CDEP transition payment will make up the difference between average earnings from CDEP scheme wages plus income support payments at 23 July 2007 and the payments made under the income support arrangements after the changes to CDEP.
The Northern Territory CDEP transition payment will assist individuals to manage changes in income that may result from their move to income support. The payment will only be available to people in the Northern Territory who were receiving CDEP Scheme payments on 23 July 2003. The payment will be made available the day after the person's transition day, and will cease on 30 June 2008 (unless earlier cancelled due to lack of qualification etc).
Bereavement or crisis provisions
The Northern Territory CDEP transition payment is not included or relevant in relation to bereavement leave, BVA or bereavement lump sum. In addition, crisis payments are not relevant to the Northern Territory CDEP transition payment.
