10.14.7.20 Embargoes on Arrears of German & Australian Benefits

Embargoes

Article 14 of the Agreement with Germany contains embargo provisions discussed in 10.1.8.20. This means that any overpayment of Australian benefit resulting from the grant of German benefit can be withheld from any arrears resulting from the grant of that German benefit. Centrelink International Services is responsible for liaising with Germany and arranging this.

Germany can similarly ask Australia to withhold from its arrears an amount equal to a German overpayment and transfer this amount to Germany.
