10.29.7.20 Embargoes on Arrears of Slovak Benefits

Embargoes

Article 19 of the Agreement with the Slovak Republic contains embargo provisions. This means any overpayment of Australian benefit following the grant of a Slovak benefit could potentially be recovered from the arrears of a Slovak benefit before it is paid to the recipient, and vice versa. However the Slovaks have advised that they cannot currently hold arrears of Slovak pension and they must be released to the pensioner as soon as the pension is granted.
