11.1.10.20 Misuse of vouchers & stored value cards under income management

Misuse of vouchers & stored value cards

Where a person's income management account is used to provide for a voucher, if an unauthorised person obtains the voucher and uses it without the person's consent, then the value of the voucher is a debt owed by the unauthorised person to the Commonwealth.

Where a person's income management account is used to credit a stored value card, if an unauthorised person obtains the stored value card and uses it without the person's consent, then the amount used from the stored value card is a debt owed by the unauthorised person to the Commonwealth.

To initiate debt recovery, Centrelink will contact the unauthorised person, and request that the unauthorised person repay the amount. See 11.1.10.30 for further details.
