1.1.I.20 Institution

Definition

For the purposes of the National Redress Scheme, an institution means a body, entity, group of persons or organisation. An institution may or may not be incorporated.

Institutions can be:

  • Commonwealth organisations
  • State entities
  • Territory bodies
  • non-government groups.

An institution is not an individual or a family. This means that if a family member or an individual with no connection to an institution sexually abused a person, the abuse (1.1.A.10) is not covered by the Scheme.
