1.1.I.30 Institution

Definition

For the purposes of the National Redress Scheme, an institution refers to any body, entity, group of persons or organisation. An institution may or may not be incorporated.

Institutions can be:

  • Commonwealth institutions
  • participating State institutions
  • participating Territory institutions
  • participating non-government institutions.

An institution is not an individual or a family. This means that where abuse was perpetrated by an individual outside of an institutional setting or within a family the incident of abuse is not covered by the Scheme.
