1.1.P.60 Part 2.23B major disaster

Definition

For the purposes of the DRA, the term 'Part 2.23B major disaster' (major disaster) will be determined by the Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management if the event is of national significance and has such a significant impact on one or more industries and/or one or more areas that an Australian Government response in the form of income support is required. A major disaster can be a natural or non-natural disaster that occurs in Australia. When arriving at such a decision the following factors will be taken into consideration:

  • the number of workplaces disrupted, and
  • the extent to which the nature or extent of the disaster is unusual.
