1.1.S.150 Sharer (RA)

Definition

For the purposes of RA, a sharer is a single person without dependents who has the LEGAL RIGHT to share a bathroom, kitchen or bedroom with other people. In other words, they do not have the EXCLUSIVE right to use these areas.

A single person who has the exclusive right to use a bathroom, a kitchen and a bedroom is not to be treated as a sharer solely because the person has the right, in common with others, to use other major areas of accommodation.

Example: An income support recipient who has their own bedroom with ensuite, and exclusive use of a kitchen, is not a sharer simply because they have shared use of a common lounge area.

Note: There are several categories of people and accommodation types that are exempt from the sharers provisions. For details refer to 3.8.1.110.
