1.1.S.45 School - enrolment, attendance, person responsible for operation of a school (SEAM)
Note: SEAM ceased effective 31 December 2017. The Australian and Northern Territory Governments remain committed to supporting families and communities to get their children to school every day and to improve school attendance in remote communities. Despite the cessation of SEAM, Northern Territory Government Truancy Officers will continue to monitor attendance in select communities and DHS social workers will continue to visit remote communities as part of their general work.

Enrolment at a school includes anything that is acceptable as an alternative to conventional schooling under the relevant state or territory law, for example, approved home schooling.
Attendance at a school includes attendance at a place that is acceptable as an alternative to conventional schooling under the relevant state or territory law, for example, approved home schooling.
Definition: person responsible for operation
A person responsible for the operation of a school means the school principal or a person within the management structure of the school OR a person who has responsibility within a relevant state or territory government department or non-government authority or a person included in a class of persons specified in an instrument under the SS(Admin)Act. It includes a person responsible for a place the child is attending as an alternative to a school, for example, the director of a traineeship provider.
A person responsible may include: a person who is an employee of Northern Territory Department of Education who may from time to time exercise powers and functions under the Northern Territory Education Act (2015) sections 172 and 173 in relation to school enrolment, attendance or participation.
