10.11.7.20 Embargoes on Arrears of Austrian Benefits

Embargoes

Article 16 of the Agreement contains embargo provisions discussed in 10.1.8.20. This means that any overpayment of Australian benefit resulting from the grant of Austrian benefit can be withheld from any arrears resulting from the grant of that benefit, and vice versa. Centrelink International Services is responsible for liaising with Austria and arranging this.

Austria will pay, from arrears, the debt amount, and pay the excess to the Austrian pension recipient. Any shortfall may be recovered by Australia.
