10.16.5.20 Totalising to Qualify for a Chilean Benefit

Totalising for a Chilean benefit

Article 18 of the Agreement covers totalisation in order to qualify for a Chilean benefit.

Chile counts periods of Australian working life residence as Chilean periods of insurance when totalising for Chilean benefits.

To use the Agreement to qualify for a Chilean benefit a person must have a minimum of one year of insurance contributions.

Article 19 of the Agreement allows for a person who is resident in Australia during working life or is in receipt of an Australian pension at the time they apply for a Chilean benefit, to be considered to be a current contributor to schemes managed by the Instituto de Normalización Previsional for the purposes of qualifying benefits under that scheme.
