10.24.3.30 Equality of Treatment - Agreement with Japan

Equality of treatment

Article 4 of the Agreement ensures that people to whom the Agreement applies are treated equally under the social security laws of Australia, and under the legislation of Japan.

However this Article does not enable Australian citizens to be able to make voluntary insurance contributions into the Japanese pension schemes whilst they are not living in Japan nor does it affect the provisions that allow Japanese nationals living abroad to make these voluntary insurance periods.
