11.2.7.20 Ongoing individual contact under the Cape York initiative

Ongoing individual contact

Following the initial income management interview, the delegate will confirm in writing to the individual how their income managed funds are to be allocated. The delegate should encourage the individual to take this record of budget allocations to Family Income Management in order to seek Family Income Management's advice in developing a comprehensive budget reflecting their personal circumstances.

The delegate will establish checks of the individual's record as required to ensure that the income managed amount has not varied significantly enough to affect the individual's ongoing priority allocations.

The individual will also be able to contact the delegate by phone at any time, to arrange for any modifications to disbursements where necessary and check on their allocations.

Some individuals may have greater needs and require frequent contact with the delegate. This is to be arranged on an individual basis. Additional face-to-face meetings may also be required where the delegate needs proof of documentation in order to adjust disbursements.

If the initial face-to-face appointment is unable to be held within 14 days, the delegate may commence income management via phone contact rather than waiting for the available face-to face-contact. In this case, the assistance of the Family Responsibilities Commission case manager could be sought. In remote settings, the delegate would provide ongoing face-to-face contact with the individual as appropriate during any visits to the community.
