3.2.10.30 Annual Activity Requirement - Hours of Participation

Participants in jobactive

The annual activity requirement forms part of a job seeker's overall mutual obligation requirements. It refers to a requirement for job seekers to undertake some additional activity, such as WFD, paid or voluntary work, study or training for 6 months of each year after their first 12 months on payment. These activities are in addition to any other requirements that form part of a person's overall mutual obligation requirements such as job search and attending provider appointments.

Most job seekers have an annual activity requirement, though some may not have to participate (refer 3.2.10.20 for eligibility). The details of which activities are suitable for various job seekers to meet their annual activity requirement during the WFD phase are described at 3.2.10.10.

The number of hours and timeframe over which various jobactive participants must undertake suitable activities to meet their annual activity requirement are described below.

Job seekers with full-time mutual obligation requirements:

  • Aged up to 49 - generally 650 hours over 26 weeks (50 hours per fortnight).
  • Aged 50 to 59 - generally 390 hours over 26 weeks (30 hours per fortnight).
  • Aged 60 to age pension age - 130 hours over 26 weeks (10 hours per fortnight).

Principal carer parents and partial capacity to work (15-29 hour) job seekers - unless fully meeting their mutual obligation requirements (refer 3.2.10.20 for eligibility):

  • Aged under 30 - generally 390 hours over 26 weeks (30 hours per fortnight).
  • Aged 30 to 59 - generally 200 hours over 26 weeks (15-16 hours per fortnight).
  • Aged 60 and over - no annual activity requirement.

Job seekers undertaking Defence Reserves will be required to participate for 240 hours over 26 weeks (18 to 19 hours per fortnight).
