6.7.1.70 Debts arising from conviction

Summary

Under SSAct section 1224AB, where one person contravenes the social security law and accrues a debt, and another person is convicted under the Criminal Code Act 1995 of knowingly being involved in relation to that contravention, both people are jointly liable for repayment of the debt.

Section 1224AB does not create a new debt, it simply extends liability for repayment across both parties.
