Goldfields became a trial area for the Cashless Debit Card Trial from 26 March 2018. The trial will run in this trial area until 30 June 2019. The Goldfields trial area is defined under SS(Admin)Act subsection 124PD(1).
Anyone whose usual place of residence was in the Goldfields area, as at 26 March 2018, or who moves into the Goldfields area after this time, and receives a trigger payment will become a trial participant unless they are exempted (188.8.131.52).
Once a person is a trial participant, they will remain on the trial, even if they move out of the trial area.

The Goldfields trial area is defined under SS(Admin)Act subsection 124PD(1).
The Goldfields trial area means the following Local Government Areas as at 7 February 2018:
- the Shire of Leonora,
- the Shire of Laverton,
- the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder,
- the Shire of Coolgardie, and
- the Shire of Menzies.
The Social Security (Administration) (Cashless Welfare Arrangements-Trial Area Exclusion and Community Bodies) Determination 2018 excludes the locality of Plumridge Lakes as referred to in the definition of the Goldfields - Esperance Police District in Schedule 1 to the Police Districts Notice 2017 (Western Australia).
