10.1.14.10 Review of Agreements
Review
Agreements are reviewed to make sure they are updated to cater for changes in the legislation of Australia and its agreement partners and the needs of the people covered. Generally, agreements are reviewed on an ad-hoc basis, although some agreements specify a review period.
Changes to legislation need to be brought to the attention of agreement partners, particularly if those changes are going to affect people covered by the agreement. Because agreements are bilateral treaties, both countries have to agree to changes to an agreement. Neither Australia nor the agreement country can change agreement provisions by itself.
Most agreements contain provisions to cover serious disagreements relating to agreements.
