8.7.7.40 East Kimberley Community Panels

Community body

SS(Admin)Act section 124PE empowers the Minister, by notifiable instrument, to authorise a body as a 'community body'.

A community body may be incorporated or unincorporated, and must provide, or intend to provide, services relating to the care, protection, welfare or safety of adults, children or families.

The Social Security (Administration) (Cashless Welfare Arrangements-Trial Area Exclusion and Community Bodies) Determination 2018 authorises the Kununurra Community Panel and the Wyndham Community Panel as community bodies under SS(Admin)Act section 124PE.

The Kununurra Community Panel and the Wyndham Community Panel will assess whether a decrease in a trial participant's or voluntary participant's restricted proportion under SS(Admin)Act section 124PK is likely to contribute to community harm or undermine positive social norms.

A decrease in the restricted portion of a participant's payment provides a larger cash proportion to participants who are supporting a safe and positive community environment.

The Kununurra Community Panel application form and panel guidelines are available on the Kununurra Community Panel page on the DSS website.

The Wyndham Community Panel application form and panel guidelines are available on the Wyndham Community Panel page on the DSS website.
