5.2 Initial eligibility & payability determinations for PLP

Introduction

This chapter explains how Centrelink makes initial eligibility and payability determinations for a PLP claim.

Centrelink may make an initial eligibility determination (1.1.E.30) before deciding whether PLP can be paid. This may happen, for example, if a claim is lodged before the child is born. In these situations, Centrelink may determine that a person meets, or is likely to meet, the eligibility criteria.

Centrelink must make a payability determination (1.1.P.60) once a person has made an effective claim. This determination decides whether PLP can be paid to the person.
