6.1 Gathering information

Introduction

This chapter explains that under the PPLAct the Secretary or delegate (Centrelink) may require any person to provide information relevant to determining whether a person has made an effective claim for PLP and, if so, whether the person is or was eligible for the payment and whether PLP is or was payable to a person.

The chapter also outlines the Secretary's general power to obtain information if considered relevant to matters specified in PPLAct section 117, the power to obtain information from or about a person who owes a debt to the Commonwealth under or because of the PPLAct, the power to gather information about TFNs, the purposes for which TFNs can be used, and a person's obligation to notify Centrelink of a change of circumstances.
