Moving between Australia & Greece
Generally, benefits paid under the Agreement with Greece are portable indefinitely when the person travels between Australia and Greece.
Australia to Greece
People paid under the Agreement who leave Australia permanently and travel to Greece will have their rate calculated using the outside Australia rate in 10.23.8.20 as soon as they leave Australia.
People paid under the Agreement who reside in Australia and travel to Greece temporarily will continue to have their rate calculated using the inside Australia rate in 10.23.8.40 for a period of up to 26 weeks. Once they have been in Greece for more than 26 weeks, their rate will be calculated using the outside Australia rate in 10.23.8.20.
Note: Article 12, paragraph 3 of the Agreement provides that Greek residents being paid with a 44 year denominator who re-establish residency in Australia, would revert to a 25 year denominator only if they remain in Australia as Australian residents for more than 2 years.
Greece to Australia
People who come permanently to Australia from Greece and rely on the Agreement for an Australian benefit may have their rate calculated using the inside Australia rate in 10.23.8.40 as soon as they arrive in Australia. The autonomous rate can be paid when they have 10 years of residence in Australia.
People paid under the Agreement who reside in Greece and travel to Australia temporarily will continue to have their rate calculated using the outside Australia rate in 10.23.8.20 for a period of up to 26 weeks. Once they have been in Australia for more than 26 weeks, their rate will be calculated using the inside Australia rate in 10.23.8.40.
