10.4.7.20 Embargoes on Arrears of Italian Benefits

Embargoes

Article 17 of the Agreement with Italy contains embargo provisions discussed in 10.1.8.20. This means that any overpayment of Australian benefit resulting from the grant of Italian benefit can be withheld from any arrears resulting from the grant of that benefit. Centrelink International Services is responsible for liaising with Italy and arranging this.

Italy can similarly ask Australia to withhold from its arrears an amount equal to an Italian overpayment and transfer this amount to Italy.
