10.6.7.20 Embargoes on Arrears of Spanish Benefits

Embargoes

Article 24 - Recovery of Overpayments - contains embargo provisions discussed in 10.1.8.20. This -means that any overpayment of Australian benefit resulting from the grant of Spanish benefit can be withheld from any arrears resulting from the grant of that benefit. Centrelink International Services is responsible for liaising with Spain and arranging this. The same applies to arrears of Australian benefits.

Note: This only applies to benefits covered by the Agreement. If the Australian benefit is not covered under the Agreement a debt may still be raised - see 10.6.7.30.
