4.7.2 CCS & ACCS additional absences

Introduction

Additional absences are absences taken for specified reasons, once all allowable absences have been accessed by a child for the financial year (1.1.A.05).

CCS and ACCS are payable for additional absences. There is no limit on the number of additional absences that may be accessed each financial year, as long as the absence is for a specified reason and supporting documentation, if required, is provided.

Additional absence reasons

The specified reasons for additional absences are:

  • the child, the individual who cares for the child, the individual’s partner (1.1.P.30) or another person with whom the child lives is ill and the service has been given a medical certificate by a medical practitioner
  • the child is attending preschool
  • alternative care arrangements have been made on a pupil-free day (for example, the child attends a different service of the same provider if their normal service is temporarily closed)
  • the child has not been immunised against an infectious disease, the absence occurs during an immunisation grace period and a medical practitioner (1.1.M.40) has certified that exposure to the infectious disease would pose a health risk to the child
  • the absence is because the child is spending time with a person other than the individual who is their usual carer as required by a court order or a parenting plan (1.1.P.20), and the service has a copy of the relevant court order or parenting plan for the child
  • the child cannot attend because of a period of emergency (for example, because they are unable to travel to the service), for up to 28 days after the emergency
  • the individual who cares for the child has decided the child should not attend the service for up to seven days immediately following the end of a period of emergency.
