1.4 Western Australia & the child support scheme

Introduction

This chapter describes the history of the application of the child support scheme to children who live in Western Australia (WA) whose parents were never married ('ex-nuptial' children). This description covers the period prior to the Child Support (Commonwealth Powers) Act 2019 (WA) (CS(CP)Act) receiving Royal Assent on 15 May 2019. The chapter also explains the effect of the CS(CP)Act on the application of the child support scheme to WA ex-nuptial children.
