1.1.S.110 Start date of permanent legal residence (CCS)

Usage

This term applies to people who:

  • have been granted a visa allowing them to reside permanently in Australia (1.1.A.120), and
  • are permanent residents of Australia.

The term does not apply to New Zealand citizens as they enter Australia on an SCV that does not necessarily mean that they are permanent residents of Australia.

Definition

The start date of permanent legal residence is the date when permanent residence was granted, or the person arrived in Australia, whichever is the later.

Explanation: If a person is granted a permanent visa before arriving in Australia, the start date of permanent legal residence is the date they arrived in Australia. Alternatively, if a person comes to Australia as a temporary resident and later applies for permanent residence, the start date of permanent legal residence is the date on which permanent residence is granted.
