Context

The Child Support Scheme is administered under 2 Acts of Parliament.

The CSRC Act established the Child Support Scheme on 1 June 1988, and provides for the registration, collection, and enforcement of child support liabilities, including:

  • administrative assessments of child support
  • court registered agreements for child and spousal maintenance, and
  • court orders.

The CSA Act took effect from 1 October 1989 and introduced administrative assessments of child support in accordance with a formula.
