4.7.1 Extension of acceptance period

Summary

A person may contact the Scheme and ask for more time to decide whether to accept or decline their offer of redress.

The Scheme may extend a person's acceptance period in exceptional circumstances. If more time is given, the Scheme will contact the person in writing.

The Scheme may also extend the acceptance period without a request from the person if it becomes aware that there are exceptional circumstances. If this occurs, the Scheme will contact the person in writing.

An extension to the acceptance period may occur:

  • before the end of the acceptance period
  • at the end of the acceptance period, or
  • after the end of the acceptance period if the person has not accepted or declined the offer of redress in writing. This includes where a person is taken to have declined the offer of redress because they did not accept the offer before the end of the acceptance period.

If the acceptance period is extended, the person will have until the end of the new acceptance period to accept or decline their redress offer, or ask for a review.
