6.2.3 Infringement notices

Introduction

Infringement notices (1.1.I.60) are intended to encourage employer compliance with the requirements of the PPLAct. Centrelink or the FWO can give an infringement notice under Part 5 of the Regulatory Powers (Standard Provisions) Act 2014 if Centrelink or the FWO reasonably believes that the employer has contravened one or more of the civil penalty provisions in the PPLAct. A person who is given an infringement notice is required to pay the pecuniary penalty specified in the notice, which is a lesser penalty than that which a court would have the discretion to order in a civil penalty order (1.1.C.70).
