1.1.A.10 Absence from Australia

Definition

For the purposes of FA, the individual (1.1.I.90) or child is absent from Australia (1.1.A.120) if they are outside of Australia.

The day a person departs Australia is counted as the first day of absence from Australia.

The day a person arrives back in Australia counts as a day in Australia.

Example: Jane departs Australia on 12 October 2017 at 11 am and arrives in Japan on the same day. She subsequently returns a week later on 19 October 2017 at 1 pm. As such, Jane is considered absent from Australia from 12 October 2017 until 18 October 2017.
