6.2.5.50 CP - reviews (adult with a disability)

Summary

This topic covers reviews of a person in receipt of CP for the care they provide to an adult care receiver to determine their continued eligibility for payment. There are 3 forms of review:

  • a full review - involves the completion of a new ADAT, including a medical assessment of the care receiver, and the confirmation of the care situation
  • a circumstance review to determine that care is still required by the care receiver and still being provided by the carer, and
  • an income and assets (1.1.A.290) review for the carer and the care receiver (1.1.C.20).

Act reference: SSAct section 8(1)-'income'

Determining the type of review required

The table below determines the type of review required.

If the care receiver … then …

has a disability or medical condition that meets all of the following conditions:

  • achieves an ADAT score of 40 or more, AND

  • a THP has assessed the condition as permanent and not improving

a full review (including a new ADAT) is not required.

However, a carer circumstance review may be conducted by phone to ensure that the person continues to meet the non-medical qualifications for CP.

has a disability or medical condition that does not meet all the conditions listed above the carer may be subject to a full review, including a medical assessment using the ADAT.

Where the care receiver also qualifies their carer for CA, both payments should be reviewed at the same time.

Income & assets reviews

The carer and care receiver are required to meet an income and assets test for the carer to remain eligible for CP.

The review should also consider eligibility for an income support payment if the care receiver is an adult with a disability who is currently not receiving income support.
