1.1.G.10 Garnishee

Definition

The Registrar (1.2.1.10) may use a garnishee to collect child support debts from a third person.

A garnishee is a written notice issued by the Registrar to any third party instructing them to pay a specified amount of money they hold (now or in the future). Garnishees are commonly used to collect money held in bank accounts and for the proceeds of property settlements (for example, house sales) that become due to the relevant debtor.
