1.1.T.60 Temporary cessation of care (CP, CA)
Definition: CP
For the purposes of CP, temporary cessation of care refers to a situation in which a carer (1.1.C.40) temporarily ceases to provide the care receiver (1.1.C.20) with constant care without losing qualification for CP.
Example: The carer ceases to provide care temporarily when the care receiver enters respite care or the carer goes on holidays without the care receiver.
The temporary cessation of care provisions for CP only apply where the cessation of care is a 24-hour period from midnight to midnight. Part days do not count as temporary cessation of care.
Example: The carer temporarily ceases to provide care from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm while she visits a friend. The cessation does not include overnight and does not count as temporary cessation of care.
Definition: CA
For the purpose of CA, temporary cessation of care refers to a situation in which a carer temporarily ceases to provide the care receiver (1.1.C.21) with care and attention on a daily basis without losing qualification for CA.
Example: The carer ceases to provide care temporarily to go on a 2-week vacation and arranges for her sister to provide care to the care receiver.
The temporary cessation of care provisions for CA only apply where the cessation of care includes a 24-hour period from midnight to midnight. Part days do not count as temporary cessation of care.
Example: The carer attends to personal affairs outside the home 3 times a week from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This does not include an overnight absence and is not counted as temporary cessation of care.
