3.6.12.280 DCLAD (Child) professional questionnaire scoring step 6 - interim THP score

Summary

Step 6 of the professional questionnaire scoring regime gives a weighting to the scores already obtained. This adjusted THP questionnaire score becomes the interim THP questionnaire score.

Explanation: Adjustments are made in recognition of the greater impact of certain functional domains (1.1.F.280), and to ensure the assessment remains consistent throughout.

Adjusting the raw scores (1.1.R.10)

The following table explains the steps in the adjustment of the raw scores.

Note: References to question numbers are from the Disability Care Load Assessment (Child) Determination 2010, not the claim form.

Questionnaire weighting

Each of the 10 domain scores are divided by 2.

Milestone weighting (1.1.W.20)

For domains 1, 2, 3 and 5, 6, 7 the weighted scores are calculated by multiplying the score for each domain by 10/10.

Milestone weighting

For domains 4 (hygiene) and 8 (grooming), the weighted scores are calculated by multiplying the score for each domain by 10/9. This results in a higher score.

Example: A weighting of 10/9 applied to a score of 2 will provide a new result of 2.22.

Explanation: These 2 domains each have 9 milestones, compared with 10 for the other domains. An adjustment is necessary to ensure these scores have the same weight as those from other domains.

Note: For domains 9 and 10 the weighted scores are not adjusted in this step.

Self-care skill score

To calculate the self-care skill score the weighted scores from the 3 self-care skills domains (3, 4 and 5) are averaged by adding them together and dividing the result by 3.

Explanation: Feeding and mealtime skills, hygiene and grooming skills, and dressing skills are really 3 elements of the same functional domain of self-care skills.

Raw score

The raw scores are the:
  • questionnaire weighted scores (step 1) for domains 9 and 10,
  • milestone weighted scores (step 2 or 3) for functional domains 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8,
  • average self-care skills score (step 4) divided by 3 for domains 3, 4 and 5.

Functional weighting for domain 1 (1.1.W.30)

The raw score for domain 1, on receptive language skills, is multiplied by 1.2.

Explanation: A weighting is applied to this domain to reflect that a disability in this area has a greater impact on the child and family.

Functional weighting for domain 10

The raw score for domain 10, on special care needs, is multiplied by 2.

Explanation: A weighting is applied to this domain to reflect that a disability in this area has a greater impact on the child and family.

Interim THP questionnaire score

The total weighted scores for each domain are calculated by adding the functional weighting scores for functional domains 1 and 10, and the raw scores for domains 2 - 9. These scores are added together to calculate an interim THP questionnaire score.
