This definition applies to all payments.


A correspondence nominee is a person who is voluntarily appointed by the social security recipient (the principal) and may receive social security correspondence on behalf of the principal and (in most instances) may act on the principal's behalf as if they were the principal. This arrangement is made under the direction of the Secretary.
